This is an Apprenticeship Vacancy. The successful candidate will be employed by the company outlined below and receive on-the-job training from them. Alongside this, they will undertake an Apprenticeship Programme with ACT Training and receive support and guidance from an experienced Assessor, to help them achieve the relevant qualifications. Please refer to the Course Outline at the bottom of this page for an overview of the Apprenticeship Programme.

Job Title: Childcare Apprentice 

Apprenticeship Programme: Children's Care, Play, Learning and Development Level 2

Hours of Work: 30 hours per week 

Days and Times of Work: Monday - Friday, between 7:30am – 6:30pm 

Salary: National Minimum Wage for Apprentices - Currently £4.15 per hour

Company Overview: We are an established childcare provider having operated Blue Door Nursery on Allensbank Road in Cardiff, since 2006. Blue Door Out of School Care will continue to offer first class childcare at Whitchurch Road, for children aged 3 – 11 years who attend school.

We are registered for 40 children and we provide the following out of school services:

  • Breakfast Club
  • After School Club
  • Wraparound for state funded nursery places
  • Inset Day Cover
  • Holiday Club

Key Duties:  

  • Adhering to the Policies and Procedures of Gallivan Childcare Solutions Limited (t/a Blue Door Out of School Care) and compliance with the Children Act, Health and Safety legislation and within the guidelines of CIW and the National Standards, ensuring confidentiality is maintained in the setting
  • Working as part of a team
  • The care and supervision of the children, with regards to their physical, emotional, and intellectual needs
  • Working with the Childcare Practitioners on planning and preparation of activities, to meet the children’s individual needs. Liaising with parents and negotiating working targets, ensuring effective communication within the setting
  • Offering all children, staff, and volunteers, equal opportunities with regards to their religious needs, ethnic origins, gender, disabilities, cultural or linguistic background. If necessary, managing challenging situations where discrimination is displayed
  • Keeping of development records and observations
  • Positive management of children’s behaviour
  • Preparation, care, cleanliness and maintenance of the playrooms and equipment and any other areas in the interests of health and safety
  • Providing a good role model for students and help new staff to fit into the setting
  • Keeping accident, incident and risk assessment records
  • Supervision of mealtimes
  • Laundry duties
  • Attendance of staff meetings as arranged by the Nursery Manager
  • Participating in regular parents’ evenings, publicity, open weekends and children’s outings
  • Any other duties appropriate to the post as directed by the Nursery Manager

Essential Requirements:  

  • Level 1 childcare qualification
  • Any childcare experience whether it’s voluntary or work experience
