This is an Apprenticeship Vacancy. The successful candidate will be employed by the company outlined below and receive on-the-job training from them. Alongside this, they will undertake an Apprenticeship Programme with ACT Training and receive support and guidance from an experienced Assessor, to help them achieve the relevant qualifications. Please refer to the Course Outline at the bottom of this page for an overview of the Apprenticeship Programme.

Salary: £12,500 per annum

Company Overview: Newport City Council's Policy and Partnership team are looking to recruit 2 x Apprentices - 1 x Policy Support Officer and 1 x Connected Communities to work within the team for a period of 12 months. The position of Policy Support Officer Apprentice is a joint post between Newport City Council and Natural Resources Wales.

These two positions represent a fantastic opportunity to develop important skills within the public sector, and a chance to contribute to the development of both Newport City Council's equalities and partnership work, and the partnership work of Natural Resources Wales.

Key Duties:  

  • The successful candidates will provide general administrative assistance as required including arranging and supporting meetings and events, handling telephone/email enquiries, basic Word processing tasks, diary management, and providing basic financial support. The roles will also include supporting senior officers working on the city's Well-being Plan with a focus on Green and Safe Spaces, and helping to support delivery of the Council's Strategic Equality Plan, migration and community cohesion work. You will play a role maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders including colleagues, service providers and partner organisations.

Essential/Desirable Requirements:  

  • 5 GCSEs or equivalent grade A-C including Maths and English
  • Demonstrable IT experience
