About this course

Our Level 3 Apprenticeship in Playwork prepares learners to work within a play environment. Practitioners are supported to provide a number of stimulating activities and opportunities for children, promoting play and development.

This Apprenticeship is aimed at learners who are already working in a playwork setting and are in a supervisory role.

Settings could be out-of-school work (including afterschool or breakfast clubs) and seasonal holiday clubs. Learners may already be working as Playworkers or Assistant Playworkers or as Children’s Holiday Representatives.

Learners will be required to undertake a mixture of mandatory units and optional units (we will work with you to decide what optional units are relevant to your role, and your business).

Examples of mandatory units include:

  • Understand playwork principles
  • Understand children and young people’s self-directed play
  • Understand how to safeguard the wellbeing of children and young people

When you agree to undertake an Apprenticeship, you may be required to complete Essential Skills qualifications, depending on your previous qualifications, the Apprenticeship level you are completing and your own particular needs.

This qualification will primarily be delivered through 1-to-1 sessions with a member of our delivery team, using a mixture of face-to-face and remote learning sessions.

Upon enrolment, learners are also allocated an assessor. Throughout the qualification, the assessor will visit the learner either at their workplace or remotely (for example, via Microsoft Teams) on a monthly basis, to support progress, observe and set tasks.

After completing this qualification, successful learners may consider progressing onto our Level 5 Apprenticeship in Playwork. Learners are supported and encouraged throughout their qualification to reach their full potential in their chosen industry.

Future employment opportunities include:

  • Playworker – supervisor
  • Deputy Club Manager
  • Club Manager
