So you’ve decided that on-the-job learning is for you – excellent news! Whether you are already employed or have secured one of our Apprenticeship vacancies, you will experience a unique learner journey relevant to you and your career. Read our handy step-by-step guide on what to expect throughout your qualification, from sign up to completion.

There are four key stages to your learner journey which are:

1. Enrolment with an Apprenticeship Advisor

The first step towards your Apprenticeship is sign up. Over the phone, we will conduct a skill scan with you to ensure the qualification is right for you, go through the qualification course outline and ensure you’re happy with what it entails and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the qualification. You will have been sent an application form which we will also fill out with you over the phone.

Next, an Apprenticeship Advisor will visit you at your place of work to complete the enrolment process. This is also where you complete all necessary paperwork to sign up as well, including Welsh Government registration forms, as well as literacy and numeracy assessments to determine how we can support you develop these skills throughout your Apprenticeship. The Apprenticeship Advisor will also set your first task ready for your first meeting with your Assessor which will include an introduction module and setting up your E-Portfolio.

2. Induction and your first visit from your assessor

Your Assessor will contact you via phone to introduce themselves and arrange your first meeting. This induction also enables you to gain more in-depth knowledge of the qualifications that make up your Apprenticeship diploma, certificate & Essential Skills qualifications.

You and your Assessor will discuss what you want to work on and improve, producing a personalised individual learning plan; including a discussion about how we will support you to improve your literacy, numeracy, and digital literacy. You will also choose any optional units necessary for your qualification.

Your Assessor will also conduct a Digital Literacy assessment (within 28 days) and we’ll use the results to help support you if required.

3. Developing your skills and completing your qualifications

Over the next 12-24 months, you will work towards your learning goals, with regular meetings with your Assessor in your workplace to keep you on track with your qualification. You and your Assessor will plan how and when teaching, learning and assessment will take place and they will set you tasks to complete between each meeting. Where possible, these meetings will also include your employer so we can collectively provide as much support for you in terms of your skills development and personal development.

4. Completing your Apprenticeship and celebrating your achievements

Once you have reached the end of your Apprenticeship, you will receive your qualifications and we’ll help support you on your continued learner journey. Once completed, the opportunities to learn and progress are endless!

You could continue to train for an advanced or higher level Apprenticeship; speak to your manager about putting your new skills and qualifications into practice with a new project; or go for that promotion in work.
