Paediatric First Aid Level 3 Award

This qualification is primarily aimed at those who wish to develop the essential knowledge and skills to undertake the role of the paediatric first aider, but it will be useful for anyone with the responsibility for caring for infants and children. Successful completion of this qualification will provide participants with the basic life-support to manage life-threatening emergencies, as well as how to manage common paediatric illnesses, injuries and emergencies.

This qualification meets the requirements for paediatric first aid outlined in the Early Years Foundation Stage.

Topics include:

  • the role and responsibilities of the paediatric first-aider
  • providing first aid for an infant or a child who is unresponsive and breathing normally.
  • how to administer first aid to an infant or a child with head and spinal injuries,
  • how to administer first aid to an infant or a child who is choking or suffering from anaphylaxis.

This qualification is assessed by a practical demonstration and written/oral questioning.
