Customer Service
The customer is always right, a satisfied customer is vital for any business, an unhappy customer isn't. In a small shop, customer service can be as simple as the person behind the counter acknowledging the customer and giving a friendly greeting. Retail covers a host of businesses from market stalls and independent shops to national chains and large superstores. Larger organisations might employ a whole customer service team to answer questions, give advice and offer exchange and refunds on any faulty products to reach the customers satisfaction. Generally customer service often involves dealing with the public face-to-face, however larger organisations employ customer service teams that work in call centres and help desks that provide customer service through the telephone.
The art of persuasion, businesses are continuously looking to improve and attract new customers. They use marketing and sales to tell people how great their company and products are. Sales is the art of persuading people to part with their money - that might mean ‘cold calling' over the phone or entertaining a potential client at the races. This new approach to marketing is closely linked with customer service and has been adopted by many organisations in an attempt to persuade people to buy.
