ACT are delighted to announce that they will once again be partnering with Llamau, the leading homelessness charity in Wales, throughout 2019. This incredible charity supports the most vulnerable young people and women in Wales, offering high levels of individual support to help them gain the skills necessary for them to live independent and purposeful lives in their communities.

ACT’s continued support of Llamau helps support young homeless people in Wales to overcome barriers to attend training and/or secure employment when they are ready. In addition, ACT staff regularly take part in a number of fundraising activities throughout the year in a bid to raise awareness of the charity and gather much-needed funds.

One example of these fundraisers is the annual Llamau Sleep Out, which sees volunteers, including a team from ACT, build their own shelter and sleep in it overnight to raise awareness of homelessness. In the 2018 challenge, volunteers from ACT successfully raised a fantastic £2,301.39 in support of the event.

Lisa Gardiner, Llamau’s Learning 4 Life Team Leader revealed these funds have directly helped Llamau to support young people and women in Wales, who are at risk of homelessness, to build an independent future for themselves and to leave homelessness behind for good. The funds have helped Llamau to support young people and women in ways such as:

  • A young lady who lost all her clothing when she had to flee a violent relationship. Now she has a spare coat so that she can go out when it rains.
  • A young parent who was trying to save money to buy her son a coat and toys. Now she has a coat for him so can she also get the toys she wanted to buy for him.
  • A learner who lives in a caravan on her father’s driveway with just a small electric heater (which she can only occasionally afford to use). Now she has sleeping bags, snuggly socks and warm clothes to wear at night.

In addition to fundraising, ACT staff also enjoy volunteering their time, getting involved in activities such as sorting Christmas presents for people supported by Llamau.

ACT also recently hosted a craft fayre at their headquarters cafe, where Llamau staff and learners sold their handcrafted items raising £120.

Commenting on the continued partnership, Caroline Cooksley, ACT’s Development Director said, “ACT is incredibly proud and excited to continue our partnership with Llamau. We look forward to working together to continue raising much-needed awareness and funds for this amazing charity.”

Barbara Redmore, Corporate and Community Fundraiser for Llamau, added, “We are thrilled that ACT are supporting and championing Llamau once again this year! ACT’s commitment to Llamau makes a huge difference to the lives of the young people we support and we look forward to seeing how our partnership develops over the next year.”
