Ynys Hywel, an engaging outdoor activity centre that guarantees all visitors an unforgettable outdoor adventure, has recently opened to the public.
Since 2012, Ynys Hywel has been providing high impact and exciting learning experiences outside the classroom for trainees and apprentices on programme at ACT Training, Wales’ leading training provider. Ynys Hywel is now expanding its provision and offering activities and programmes to members of the public, whilst also continuing to support learning curriculums at ACT.
To celebrate the expanded provision, Ynys Hywel organised a fun, free day out Open Day and encouraged local families, schools, and youth groups to come and see what the centre has to offer.
Jo Micklewright was one visitor who came along to the Open Day. Jo is a Senior Outreach and Development Worker at The Prince’s Trust and works closely with young people who are NEET. She attended the Open Day with some colleagues and a group of young people for a fun day out.
Jo said: “The young people really enjoyed every aspect of the day, but they particularly liked the animals and archery. Ynys Hywel has such a great atmosphere and a great range of activities. I love the cosy room and the wood burners and the accommodation is great for young people. The staff are very friendly and helpful too. I will definitely be coming back!”
Nick Ilston, Ynys Hywel Assistant Manager, said: “The Open Day was a great opportunity for us to show case what is on offer at Ynys Hywel. The visitors got a real buzz from having a go at our activities, especially archery and camp craft where people made and ate pizzas from produce grown on site. Hopefully our Open Day has encouraged many people, young and old, to come and have a longer stay at Ynys Hywel and book one of our many activities taking place this summer.”
